We have all lied, stolen, lusted, and taken His name in vain. But God in His infinite love and grace chose not to leave us in such a helpless state, eternally separated from Him. Instead he chose to take the form of man in Jesus Christ, to be tempted in every way, just as we are, yet without sin. Then God allowed His physical body to be tortured then crucified on a cross of wood, just so we could have the chance to accept His payment for our debt of sin.
The eternal God of the Universe actually preferred to suffer and die rather than live without us. We deserve the highest penalty for our sin yet everything that could be done to save us from this has been done. It is our choice to choose not God's.
Deuteronomy 30:19-20 says "I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you may live. That you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life.
